Who runs the exam?
Skilled Trades Ontario administers the Certificate of Qualification. Hairstylist (trade code 332A) is a compulsory trade in Ontario.
Pass mark
70%. Fail and there's a mandatory 30-day wait before you can pay the fee and rewrite.
Two doors to the exam
Complete an Ontario apprenticeship (~3,500 hours), or apply through a Trade Equivalency Assessment — $235 + HST, with verifiable evidence of your skills and experience.
What it tests
Theory: hair science, chemical services, cutting and styling theory, sanitation and infection control, safety, client consultation.
